Lady of Leisure…

Since becoming a lady of leisure I was confronted by a rather silly problem – I have NO casual clothes!

Now to look in my wardrobe you may laugh at this confession however by looking closely you will find thousands of shirts, pencil skirts, shift dresses, plenty of playsuits, sequined body con things but nothing to wear on a daily basis when all you’re really doing is running errands and pottering around the house.

So on a limited budget, I hit the high street and picked up a few ”essentials”. What’s more, I got it in at just over £150 which I didn’t think was too bad at all!

Jeans, peach cable sweater and natural pocket sweater – Next. Ribs tshirt and anchor t-shirt – Topshop. Cardigan and check shirt – Matalan

I just love all the big chunky knit sweaters at the moment and thrown on with a pair of skinny jeans and some loafers is a perfect day time staple!

Ok slightly off topic but none the less, something I wanted to share with you all. I’d never really “got” chickens as pets before, that is until I went to a family BBQ and was confronted by an entire coop full of them in the back garden.

Not only were they extremely friendly and actually quite pretty, they lay around 20 eggs a day which meant we got to take a carton home with us. They stay fresh for about 6 weeks and they were delicious! You’ve never had poached eggs until you’ve had them from happy, genuinely free-range chickens!

Prada Bags – Enter exhibit A

We all love the genius that is Miuccia Prada. But how could she possibly create two bags in the same season that could be so dramatically different? Enter exhibit A – The beautiful gold and black slouchy bag, made from leather with nappa leather lining and gold plated zips and fittings. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of the gold and black version but I do have a picture of its more colourful sister (apparently this colour is bougainvillea + voyage… ?). Really this doesn’t do justice to the black and gold version. At ALL!

I have day dreams of myself strutting down the street to ‘Black and Gold’ by Sam Sparrow with my new Prada. Sigh…

But then, exit exhibit A, enter B – this tacky looking fairy hold-all.

To be blunt; I really hate it. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a bit twee and kitch on purpose but this reads ’cheap’ to me. And when you take in to consideration that this little bag costs a whopping £1050? It just offends me on every level.

Peacocks Re-Brand

I’ll admit it, I got quite excited when I heard about the re-branding of Peacocks. I don’t think I had ever been inside a Peacocks before but I happened to be in Southampton on the first day of their grand opening. When I couldn’t find anything I liked I wasn’t overly surprised, not even particular disappointed, but when I then went in to several of thier other branches and still found nothing I gave in to the idea that Peacocks was a big miss…

But then! Bored one afternoon I was wandering around town and there low and behold a pair of brogues identical to those in Topshop! The only difference… Topshop’s pair cost £75 and Peacocks only £12! I’ve had them a week and a half already worn them 6 times… I’m in love.

Moral of the story: Persist with Peacocks and you might just come acorss something great.

Vivienne Westwood

OK so we know Vivienne Westwood has always looked a little… alternative. But give her props she has always been at the cutting edge of fashion and style. Ever since punk and new wave took off she has been right in there, bringing us her take on bondage and BDSM (if you don’t know what that is please feel free to Google!) But I mean you can’t slate the woman that brought us those famous shoes that saw Naomi Campbell fall on her perfectly polished arse mid-catwalk can you?

Even as she approaches the ripe old age of 70 she still turns out beautiful clothes, look no further than this seasons Gold Label range. Absolutely stunning!

However, gorgeous clothes aside, I’m hesitant to say, but it really needs saying… Viv is looking positively terrifying in the latest pictures advertising the Gold and Red Label…

Fabulous… But terrifying…

Heroin Chic for Topshop

Time for a serious note I think… OK so we know models are thin, news flash right? But I was really shocked at the state of the Topshop model below. Just look at her cheek bones and sunken eyes. This isn’t sexy… -

The whole ‘waif’ or ‘Heroin Chic’ look, as it has become known, became popular in the early 90′s when people started looking less at the Claudia Schiffer’s and more at the Kate Moss’. The trend has stuck…

I could go on about the ‘size 0′ phenomenon, but come on we’ve heard it all before and quite frankly I’m bored rigid with it all! All I’m saying is that Topshop need to really take a look at what’s attractive and what’s not. Here’s a clue; Brink of death = NOT SEXY!

On a lighter note Topshop have come up with some really great dresses this season. However despite trying all of them on in a range of different sizes NONE of them suit me! Balls!
